My Journey

My Journey is a musical production based on the real experiences of the composer Manveer’s visual impairment and the journey he has made between Birmingham New Street Station and Birmingham Conservatoire, where he studied tabla and composition for six years. This ten minute walk has increasingly become more of an aural adventure as his vision has deteriorated due to a generative eyesight disorder. Marva brings together five young musicians from North Indian, Western classical and Jazz traditions. Working collaboratively, the group has combined traditional Indian ragas and time cycles with highly intricate rhythmic writing and explosive improvisations.

Accompanying the music are especially –created video projections, lighting and soundscapes, depicting the route of Manveer’s journey, forming a synthesis of music, film and recorded sound which explores relationships between sounds, emotions and visual impairment. Highly accessible interest and interest to audiences across a wide spectrum, My Journey is a completely original and fascinating piece of work.
